ABOUT.

We specialize in compassionate dog care for you and your pet while you are away, or when you just need an extra set of legs.

We reinforce training techniques that you use with your pet, address the health and dietary standards you set, and maintain a safe and healthy environment for your loved ones.

We are good for clients with rescues, puppies, because we are constantly learning and want to share to help your loved one become well adjusted. That being said, we love all animals! and any other animal you have Through our interview process, we learn about your pet-family needs and requirements to make sure we’re the best fit for what you need.

While we do board pets, we also specialize in in-home pet sitting, which can reduce the stress of a new place while you are away.

We think of your pet-family like our pet-family, so you know they are in good care.

THE TEAM

Stephanie Marsh
I have been an animal lover for as far back as I can remember.  My mother worked for the Humane Society, so we always had a new rescue or two at our home.  It was at a young age I knew I wanted to be surrounded by animals for the rest of my life.

Dog walking and pet sitting allows me to share in the joy and love of having a great many animals in my life. How do I justify taking money to do what I love, I pay it forward by volunteering my time for the environment, sustainability, education or working with rescues.

I am a big supporter of local businesses, and am constantly taking steps to reduce my carbon footprint. I am always willing to go above and beyond, which creates a fulfilling life, and love to do it.

Belvedere
Steph’s french bulldog was adopted at 8 months, he is what you call my “problem child”, but he has taught me so much. I have learned about his anxiety and psychology to help him adjust. He is on his way to recovery and get’s better every day!

DAVID BEATUS

Leelos Dad

Great dog walkers/sitters for our high-energy boxer. They have also been a great asset when we are in a bind and need an overnight stay on relatively short notice.

DIANIA DIETZ

Hanks Mom

We are so glad that we chose Wag the Dog for our weekly mid day walks for my frenchie Hank. Stephanie was great at the meet and greet and I could tell she would be Hank's new bff. She sends me pictures after every walk and makes me feel comfortable that my dog is in good hands. On top of that, Stephanie really shows she cares because she provides me great tips on what my dog should eat and activities to take him to in the city. We just recently moved here so her advice is highly valued. I also like the flexibility that her company provides since our work schedules are always changing. If you are looking for a reliable dog walker that will love your dog just as much as you do, make sure you call Wag the Dog

POLICIES.

MEETING (FREE)

This is your chance to meet us.  We’ll come over to your house, meet your monster and try to impress you!  We’ll go over vet info, monster quirks, general routine and that type of thing.   If you want, we’ll be happy to go on a trial walk with you at this time.   It is a chance  for us to meet your fur family, familiarize ourselves with your fur families home turf, and a chance for you to ask us any questions about our service.  It’s always free!  We do not book services until we have met both you and your fur family. Set up a meeting here!

PAYMENT

Clients will be charged for dog walking services on an automatic basis, every two weeks pay period.  We do not require pre-payment.  However, all clients sign up for automated, credit card payments through our secure website.  (It’s really easy!  Clients do not need online banking to do so.)   Tips are not expected at all, but should a client want to leave a tip, we ask they leave cash in an envelope with the Walkers name on it for them to pick up at the time of service.

INSURANCE

We are insured through the Kennel Pro.  Should a client need to see proof of our insurance information they can ask at any time, or call our insurance company (517) 346-5223.  During regular office hours: Monday – Friday.

CANCELLATION

Weekday Visits:  To cancel a mid-day walk, please contact before the time of walk for Monday to Friday.  There is no penalty for cancellations made. However, for the weekend, because we are not fully staffed we require cancelation by Friday before 5pm.  If you cancel after that time or if we arrive at your home and are turned away, you will be charged in full for the visit.

Overnights: Due to the fact that we can only accommodate ONE fur friend request per night, per sitter, cancellations anytime after booking overnight services will incur a 50% overnight cancellation fee.  If the overnights are canceled within 48 hours, 100% cancellation fee will apply.  Please understand, if a client books overnights, then cancels, we have probably already turned another client away.  We can’t be in two places at once!  The remaining balance will be credited towards future services.

Holiday Period Pet Sitting:  From Thanksgiving until New Years Day, if less than a week’s notice is given for a cancellation of pet sitting services a fee of 50% of booked services will be imposed.  The remaining balance will be credited towards future services.  If less than 48 hours notice is given during the holiday period, 100% of booked services will be charged.

FEES

Holidays – $10 per visit, $25 per overnight. We make visits 365 days a year,if we are needed.  During calendar holidays there is a $10 holiday.  100% of the fee goes to the Walker as incentive to work on holidays.  Holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Years Eve.   On these days, dog walking clients must call, email, or request services online to book walks if they are needed a week in advance or you will be charged last minute, since we do not staff the same for holidays, and if there are no walks we leave.

KEY POLICY

Clients agree to provide us with two sets of working keys (unless living in a condo building with a front desk attendant – see below).  If only one set of keys are provided, there is a $10 key cutting fee. Please check that both sets of keys work.  Keys are left with us, so that booking can be done quickly over the phone or web for future services.  (We also can provide an awesome locksmith service when our clients lock themselves out of their home – it happens all the time!)

If a client lives in a building with a concierge we encourage them to leave keys with the front desk.  That way, we can always access the pet should the client have an emergency.

SEVERE WEATHER

In the event that we are faced with severe weather services may be altered or canceled.  You will be notified if such an event occurs.  (i.e. During a Hurricane, Blizzard, or any other event when the City of Philadelphia advises people to stay home.)  In the event of heat waves or cold snaps (temps over 100 degrees, or below 15 degrees), time outdoors will be kept to a maximum of 15 minutes for the safety of everyone involved.  The remaining visit time will be spent inside playing/snuggling.  For mid-day clients, if you are staying home from work due to severe weather forecasts, please let us know ASAP.

Snow Storms:  In the event that Philadelphia experiences a Winter Storm, services may be altered to allow for extra travel time.  In most cases, if the School District of Philadelphia is on a delay or canceled, all walks will be shortened to 15-20 minutes to allow for extra travel-time to and and from clients.  When roads become icy, it can take much longer to get from home to home.  This way, all furies will get a brief potty break and it will prevent us from running late to monsters in their daily route.   (Clients will be notified if this Policy goes into effect.)

We suggest that everyone has a trusted neighbor who has access to the home and is familiar with the pets.  During Hurricane Sandy in 2012, we did adhere to the City’s call that all non-essential personnel stay off the roads.  Having a trusted neighbor as back-up assures that someone can get to your pets if the City of Philadelphia shuts down due to severe weather.

BREED RESTRICTIONS

Under no circumstances will we discriminate on the grounds of breed.   We are happy to work with rescued/rehabilitated dogs that do not pose a risk to our safety and others around us.

AGGRESSION AND UNCONTROLLABLE PETS

We hold the right to refuse service if a pet shows any form of human-aggression (towards a us, or a stranger on the street).   If a client is out of town and a pet shows serious human-aggression, we will complete the service as agreed upon, but we may choose to not offer service in the future.  Please contact a trainer if your pet shows any form of aggression towards humans.  This is a serious pet training issue and not one to be overlooked.  Also, if a dog is uncontrollable on-leash or pulls excessively, we may also require the use of a alternate halter/leader/collar to make the walking experience safe for both us and the pet.  We can handle, and work with, moderate levels of dog-on-dog aggression by keeping your pooch away from other dogs.  However, due to the size/weight of the dog and seriousness of the aggression, we hold the right to refuse service.  We’re happy to work with clients to reinforce walking manners & socialization, but we cannot injure ourselves or put other people/pets in danger in the process.

Contact.

In order for me to provide the best possible care for your four legged family member, I would like to schedule a personal consultation with everyone in the family so that I can obtain a better understanding of what your needs are. Every new paw-tner will have an initial “MEET & GREET” - free of charge. This will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Building a personal relationship is very important to me. I care about my two legged paw-tners as much as my four legged family members.

Before our meet & greet, please do the following:

  1. Fill out your Online Profile on Wufoo.

  2. We will contact you to set up a meet and greet!

  3. Have the requested sets of keys tested and ready for me to pick up  during the Meet & Greet. We are open 7 days a week!
